THE INSIGHT - CHAPTER 13
CHAPTER 13
Different thoughts started surfacing on Dayo's mind. "Where did she go wrong? What could have come upon Kunle? Or did the lady hypnotise him? Has he forgotten all they had been through? Has he forgotten she was the only one there for him when he didn't have a job and nothing was coming forth? Has he forgotten how it all started? How it took him months before he could have a place in her heart? Has he forgotten they both prayed for the job? Has he forgotten all the promises they both made to each other? What will she tell her family and friends? That her fiance dumped her when it was just a few weeks to the wedding?"
These were the questions going through Dayo's mind as John was driving. John kept on stealing surreptitious glances at her. He wondered how broken she must be and all that could be going through her mind. He wished there was something he could do to ease her pain. He almost choked on the apple he was eating when Dayo mentioned that Kunle was going to introduce someone else to his parents. He wished Kunle had talked this through with him and Philip. Yes! Kunle didn't like the fact that he was not proud of taking Dayo with him to social functions because of her holistic and primitive way of dressing, and had opened up to his friends months back about the issue. They had advised him to be patient with her or probably talk to her about it. For a new fiancee to just come out of the blues was totally out of it. 'Who could this mysterious lady be???' John suddenly gasped, "FEYI!!!" He muttered out of his breath. Dayo was so lost in thought that she didn't notice him. John looked at Dayo to ensure she didn't see his just concluded drama. He sighed and concentrated on his driving. "Oh my God! Why didn't I think of this earlier?" He whispered. He could only pray it was not Feyi but then, 97% of his guts was telling him it was her. She was the only one Kunle mentioned. He sighed again. He could see a war coming ahead.

"Kunle, come with me." Pa Josh stood up and walked into a room that demarcated the sitting room from the kitchen. The family probably ate there but nobody officially called it a dining room. It just consisted a small round table and chairs surrounding it. An old black and white TV was also located at one corner of the room, covered with a transparent linen cloth. Pa Josh refused to do away with the old electronic. It was one of the things he bought with his hard earned money, and it somehow reminded him of how independent he used to be.
"Sit down." He motioned Kunle to a seat located directly opposite to his favourite chair. He sat down and placed his index finger over his lips. There was silence in the room for a few seconds. Kunle already had an idea of what he was going to say and was quite ready for him.
"My daughter," Kunle's mother called and smiled, "What should I prepare for you?"
Feyi smiled sheepishly and replied, "Oh, I'm alright, ma. We had breakfast before coming over here."
"Why would Akanji let you eat when he knows you are coming to visit me. He knows I don't like it when someone comes to visit and leaves without eating." Kunle's mother was probably the only person who calls him Akanji. It was a way of telling whoever cares to know that he was so special to her. Feyi got lost for some seconds, then smiled. Kunle obviously didn't mention his mother's preferred way of calling him.
"Oh! I think he mentioned something like that but I insisted we take something. I don't like travelling on an empty stomach." She replied with her fluent American English, and Kunle's mother smiled okay.
"Who is that lady?" Pa Josh asked with a little frown. He had fallen in love with Dayo the day Kunle brought her home and he wouldn't take it lightly with Kunle now that he was about leaving her on the altar.
"My fiancee, sir." Kunle and his siblings mostly responded to their Dad as sir, and their mum as "maami." Pa Josh was feared by almost everyone around him and nobody dared showing him less respect than he deserved.
"Since when?"
Kunle went mute. Yes! He had only met Feyi not quite long ago, but he knew all he needed to know about her already and didn't need his dad or anyone else to understand this mystery.
Pa Josh sighed and smiled. He understood beyond words what was happening. He could see why Kunle was attracted to Feyi. She is beautiful, very beautiful, more educated, and more exposed to the outside world of socialization.
"Is she a christian?" Pa Josh pressed further, even though he didn't have a strong christian foundation. Having been born again at such an old age, he understood the necessity of marrying a child of God. Even when he was still in the world, there were certain things Pa Josh wouldn't do because he was raised by strong moralists, and he raised his children the same way before they all eventually met Christ.
"Yes, sir. She is." Kunle said confidently. He also understood that aspect of choosing a life partner.
"She attends a Christ believing church sir." He furthered.
Pa Josh sighed and crossed his legs. He had removed his finger from his mouth and placed them on the chair arm.
"And what does she do in church?"
Kunle rolled his eyes lazily.
"Well, she is not exactly a worker in church because of her busy schedule..."
Pa Josh scoffed and Kunle paused for a few seconds, then continued.
"But she's in the welfare department. She gives to the needy in church and promotes the development of the church."
Pa Josh smiled. Kunle saw this and smiled too. He had finally won his heart but little did he know his dad was smiling for a different reason.
"So you love her?"
Finally! The question Kunle had been expecting. He smiled and replied in the affirmative.
"And where does this leave Dayo?"
**************************************
John drove into the Johnson's compound and switched off the ignition. He turned to Dayo.
"We are here."
Dayo jerked. She couldn't believe she was totally buried in thoughts throughout the 3-hour journey. She sighed and looked around like she wanted to be sure they were really at the right place. She saw a Range Rover parked at the front of the house, and tried so hard to remember where she had seen the car. Well, one doesn't see a Range everyday, so it must definitely be the same one she had seen. John got out of the car and went to the other side to open for Dayo. She thanked him and came out.
Bisi came out from the backyard door to meet Dayo and John. She had been waiting anxiously for her. She, apart from Pa Josh, was also a fan of Dayo in the house. She was quite an item, strong willed and all. Being the last child in the family doesn't stop her from giving her opinion on an issue, even when it was not asked of her.
"Hmmmmm." She sighed immediately she got to where Dayo, who was still looking at the car was.
"It belongs to her." Bisi announced. She could see Dayo's eyes fixed on the car.
Bisi ushered them in gladly. She couldn't wait to see the drama and reaction of both parties. Kunle's mother was returning with a glass cup of water. Feyi had requested for it and she was more than joyful to be of service since Bisi was nowhere to be found.
Dayo's jaw dropped.
"His new boss is the new fiancee?" She muttered under her breath. She had seen various pictures of she and Kunle with other member of staff on Kunle's phone.
"I can't believe this." She finally said, then faced John.
"It'd been his new boss all along?" She said to him like a woman almost going nuts. John nodded and held her. If he couldn't help Kunle think well, he could at least prevent a fight.
