THE INSIGHT - CHAPTER 2

       CHAPTER 2



It's been over six months since Kunle started his new job. The talk about him and Dayo getting married started fading away as each day goes by. Dayo couldn't help but wonder why, just about a year ago they were keen on getting married but Kunle's unemployment was the major hindrance. After a while, Kunle started cutting back on the number of times he calls Dayo in a day. Before, he calls her up to 5 times despite the fact they are still going to meet during the day.



"Kunle, I'm so worried about us".


It was the first time in 2 weeks they were meeting one on one. Kunle has always been busy with one thing or the other pertaining to work.


"Why are you worried Dayo?"


He has even cut back the pet names he calls her. Now, he simply calls her by her first name.


"It's the way things are, between us now. It's strange babe" Dayo said looking worried. She couldn't even take the cold drink they both ordered in the restaurant they agreed to meet.

"Strange?" Dayo asked, as he continued to sip his drink feeling less concerned. "How?"

"What do you mean? Can't you see it?" she's starting to get furious now. The change is so obvious that even people around her could see it, including her boss. "But see what? I honestly can't see any changes around here" he said, shrugging his shoulder, then he looked closely at Dayo, "well, you are fatter now. That's the only change i can see clearly"

Dayo couldn't believe her ears.

"Kunle, when last did we sit to talk like this? When last did you call to even ask how I'm faring. Sometimes when i call, you won't pick and when you do, you are always saying you are busy and will call back but you don't. You don't even call me pet names anymore. Kunle, what's happening? Is it something i did wrong?"  she said almost shedding tears. The love of her life is slipping through her fingers and she seems helpless.


Kunle stared into Dayo's eyes for few seconds, without saying a word. Then he suddenly bursted into laughter. Dayo gave him a ridiculous look as to what was so funny.


"C'mon babe, why are you being emotional about such a trivial issue? It's not what you think seriously" he replied sounding as serious as possible.

"Why won't i be emotional? Tell me! We both prayed and fasted for this job that now takes 100% of your time. We don't even talk about our marriage plans anymore. Mum even called me yesterday to ask what's up and i couldn't even tell her anything tangible. I'm worried Kunle if you are not" she blotted out and adjusted her blouse that was almost showing her cleavage.

He smiled and held her hands........

"So what did he say?" she asked curiously, dropping the onion she was slicing just to pay full attention.

"Well, he just apologised and promised to adjust. He put all the blame on his new boss. He said she's very demanding and everyone is trying not to be on her wrong side" Dayo replied, checking the stew on the gas cooker.



Bola had come to her apartment to stay for the night.


"Hmmmmm" she sighed, and got back to slicing the onions.

"What's the meaning of that ooo"

"I'm just worried Dayo"

"And who says I'm not"

"Well you are not showing it"



Dayo stopped stirring the stew and looked at Bola. "How else do you want me to show it? I just told you how i flared up today when we met" she was on the top of her voice

"Ah, calm down ooo. I was just saying ni oo" Bola jokingly replied.

Feyisara Martins is the daughter of Chief Olasanmi Martins, the owner of the company Kunle works for. She spent all her childhood and teen years in the States. Her father recently brought her back so she will learn about the ups and downs of the company since she will be taking over in few months time. Being the first child, Feyi has a dominating attitude. She always gets what she want when she wants it.

Few weeks after her father introduced her to the employees, she made it clear she's the no-nonsense type and so everyone does his/her best to keep clear off her part.

Feyi is a very attractive lady but unfortunately for her, her bossy attitude has made it difficult for her to have a smooth relationship with any man.

Chief Olasanmi hardly comes to work since the day he put Feyi in charge. He only comes once in a while to supervise the activities of the company.

"Good afternoon sir" the receptionist greeted as she rushed to go collect his briefcase.

"Afternoon Naomi" he replied with a smile. "How have things been since i put Feyisara in charge?"

She smiled and replied with a whisper

"Fine sir but we really miss you so much. Madam has been so tough on us"

Chief laughed. "Really? Well, i think that's what you guys really need. Some of you are starting to forget what you are employed to do" he replied jokingly

"by the way, where is she?"

"Oh! She's in her office, preparing for the board meeting" she replied

"That's my girl" Chief winked and walked towards Feyi's office. Naomi walked briskly after him, carrying his briefcase.
