THE INSIGHT - CHAPTER 15

CHAPTER 15

The journey to the U.S was the most stressful journey Kunle had ever embarked on, being his first time.
He checked Feyi beside him and he smiled as the latter put her head on his shoulder and fell into a deep sleep. He wanted to adjust her well on the comfortable chair of the first class coach they were but he struggled to find the button to make the chair be in a sleeping position. The air hostess noticed what he’s going through and came to his aid.
She smiled and showed him where the button is, he thanked her and adjusted the chair for Feyi. He saw a mini blanket tucked under the chair and covered her with it.
Few hours later, the pilot announced over the microphone that they are in Washington DC and will be landing in few minutes. Feyi was awake by this time. Kunle got tired of looking out of the window into the dark and later fell asleep. Feyi tapped him abruptly, not even minding the stress they’ve been through for the past few days trying to sort out his traveling papers.
Kunle opened his eyes and yawned, covering his broad mouth.
“We are landing in few minutes” she said coldly. She looked at him disdainfully, irritated by the way he just yawned. “How can you sleep as deep as that, that you didn’t even hear the pilot’s announcement?. What if he’s announcing that the plane is crashing and we should all grab a life jacket. That’s how you’d have slept your life away” she hissed and started packing her few possessions that she scattered on entering into the plane.
Kunle was confused. He was just waking up and his mind wasn’t even clear enough to understand all Feyi just said. He didn’t say a word and started packing his stuff too.

The drive to Feyi’s apartment on the outskirts of New York city was a quiet one as both of them were tired. Kunle’s eyes were fixed outside the window as he admired the beauty of the city. Feyi had arranged for a cab to come pick them up at the airport immediately they landed.
“Thank you” Feyi said to the driver as she paid him and the latter drove off.
Kunle couldn’t help but open his mouth in awe when he entered into Feyi’s mini duplex.
“Wow! Feyi, this is for you?” he muttered
Feyi dropped the bag she was carrying and moved close to him. She smiled and landed a peck on his rough cheeks.
“No baby, it is for us”
Kunle responded by drawing her closer and kissed her.

**************************************
She just came back from work and she’s obviously tired. She dropped her bag on the centre table and removed her shoes. An odour filled the room and that was when she realized the windows have not been opened. She moved close to the window to open and drew the curtain to allow fresh air into the house. Her next stop is the kitchen. She saw a tray with two plates of food on it, both plates were covered. She opened themand shook her head.

“Dayo didn’t eat her food”. She leaned on the kitchen cabinet and sighed.
It’s been 3months since Kunle left with Feyi to the States and Dayo is still as heartbroken as ever. She hardly goes out and when she does, she carries this gloomy face around. Her boss got tired of her sluggish attitude and gave her a leave to get healed and resume work.
Her friend, Bola moved in with her so she won’t be left alone most time.
“Dayo! Dayo!” she called as she walked to the room where she is.
“Dayo!”
“I’m here” she replied. Her eyes were swollen and red. Evidence that she’s been crying all day. Her Bible was beside her on the bed where she sat. Bola sat beside her and hugged her.
“Why didn’t you eat your food?” she released her grip on her and looked into her eyes. “Don’t tell me you’ve been crying all day”
“I’m fasting” Dayo replied
“Again? Sebi you just finished one 21days fast yesterday”
“Yes, but i haven’t received the reply to the question I’ve been asking and i won’t stop till God answers me”
Bola sighed and got up.
“Maybe the reply to your question is around you but you can’t see it”
Dayo raised up her head
“What do you mean by that Bola?”
“I mean what you should really be praying for is not the reply to the question but an insight to see what’s needed to be seen”
Dayo was mute. Perhaps Bola is right. It seems as if God is just silent and has decided not to hear her cries.
“Let me know when you are ready to break so i’d bring your food” Bola said and went out of the room.
“What am i not seeing?” Dayo muttered. She was still deep in thoughts when her phone rang. She jerked and checked the dialer’s name, “Pastor Collins”. Pastor Collins is the provincial pastor of the church Dayo attends and he held the marriage counseling sections for she and Kunle when they both got the conviction of settling down together. Dayo paused for a while trying to think of why he may be calling, he doesn’t just call. She had asked John to take her to Pastor Collins house the day she found out about Kunle and Feyi. She was there for 2weeks before she was able to have enough strength to go home. Pastor Collins wife, Mummy Dara, as often called by everyone, is a warm hearted and accommodating woman. Dayo had found a solace in her home and she doesn’t hesitate going there anytime she’s close to her breaking point.
She immediately cleared her throat and picked her phone. She swiped to the right as usual and Pastor’s husky voice was heard.
“Hello Ifedayo” his voice echoed from the other line. He’s part of the few people who calls her name in full.
“Good evening sir” Dayo responded firmly. She doesn’t want to give Pastor the slightest idea that she’s been crying all day but she was too late to get cautious.
“Are you okay? You don’t sound too good or have you been crying again Dayo”. Pastor Collins’ spiritual antenna is that sensitive.
Dayo smiled and thought within herself. “Now that’s what i call sensitivity”
“I’m quite okay daddy” she replied and chuckled
“It’s okay dear” he paused, then continued almost immediately, “Can you come see me in my office tomorrow? The holy spirit dropped a word for you and I’d like to see you in person to deliver it”
“Oh really? No problem sir. What time would you want me to come?”
“Hmmmmm…..i’d be seeing Bro Joshua by 12 in the afternoon. You can come by 2pm. I’d have been done with him by then”
“Okay sir. I will surely be there”
“Alright. I’d be expecting you. Do have a glorious evening and take care. God bless you”
“Amen, thank you daddy”.
She dropped the call and placed her phone on her bedside table.
“The holy spirit has a word for me? Hmmmm, maybe it’s the answer to the questions I’ve been asking him since all these while”.

Dayo got to Pastor Collins office around some minutes past 1. Even though her meeting with Pastor was scheduled for 2pm. She was hoping he will finish with Bro Joshua earlier than 2pm and her hopes wasn’t dashed. Just about 15mins she got to church, Pastor Collins came out with Bro Joshua. He sighted Dayo afar off, sitting in one corner in the church auditorium. He blessed Bro Joshua and the latter went his way.
“Ifedayo!” Pastor called.
Dayo smiled and walked across the church to meet him.
“Good afternoon daddy” she curtsied
Pastor checked his leather wristwatch, given to him by his wife.
“It’s just 1.30. I was thinking you’d come later”
“Ah daddy! I just couldn’t wait to hear what it is the holy spirit has for me”
“Hmmmm” he sighed, then ushered her into his office.
