CHAPTER 19


               


Dayo, after the last time she spoke with Kunle didn't hear from him anymore. She didn't stop praying for him and hoping all is well with him. She got over the heartbreak and concentrated on her life. She became more productive and cheerful. Now, she goes around with a glowing smile. Dayo's whole mentality changed about physical appearance. She takes time to take care of herself and look good now.

               Six months later


She arrived at work that fateful morning and made for her office. Did i mention Dayo has been promoted at work? Yes! She was promoted as a branch manager. Suddenly, the receptionist ran after her. She stopped when she looked back and saw her running towards her.

"What is it Kate?" she asked, looking surprised. She had just walked past her corner and didn't see a cause for alarm.

"Ma, a man is here to see you. He has been coming everyday for the past 1week requesting to see you but i always tell him you are not around 'cause he looks like someone that's not okay to me"

"Really? So why do you want me to see him today?"

"He mentioned your second name ma, just to convince me he knows you well. He said he just saw you walk in"

Dayo got curious.

"Okay, let's go see him"

"Yes ma"


Dayo's bag dropped when she realized the man was Kunle. She was too shocked beyond words. All she could utter was "Kunle!"

He moved close to her. His clothes were dirty and he looked unkempt. His beards haven't been trimmed for weeks and they looked so horrible. Tears rolled down his cheeks. He went on his knees before Dayo.

"I'm sorry Dayo. So sorry"

Dayo carried him up and asked him to follow her into his office. She picked her bag and made for her office. Kunle followed her, stinking all the way.

"What happened to you Kunle? Why are you like this?" she asked, after offering him a cup of cold water. He gulped it down and sighed. He looked round Dayo's office and smiled. Dayo has really changed. Now, she has taste. He didn't know when tears started rolling down his eyes.

"C'mon Kunle. Stop crying, talk to me". She placed her left hand on his shoulder and he saw it!  A WEDDING RING!. His heart missed a beat and different thoughts ran into his mind.

"Dayo is married? Aaaah! I'm finished. I finally followed Chief Martins' mistake. At least in his case, he's rich. I don't even have anything. The U.S government didn't let me take anything from Feyi's house before deporting me, not even my certificate. Where will i start from? Aaah, it is over for me. How will i even open my mouth to tell Dayo all that happened?"


"Kunle! Are you okay?" she shook him vigorously.

He came back to reality and gave a fake smile. He suddenly stood up.

"I'd like to take my leave now"

"What?! You are kidding right?.....but you only just got here"

"I just came to apologize. I'm really sorry Dayo"

Dayo smiled. "I forgave you a long time ago Kunle. But what happened? How is your wife? I hope she's fine?"

Kunle was mute. He seemed lost.

Dayo called him back again.

"Are you sure you are okay Kunle"

"No.....i mean yes" he pressed his lips against each other and blinked twice. He usually does this when he's hiding something and Dayo knows. She just didn't know what he is hiding.

"Can you come visit sometime at my place? Maybe we can talk properly then. I'm sure my husband will be more than excited to have you in our house"

Kunle's heart sank. "So she's really married" he thought

He smiled. "Uhmmm, i will give it a thought. Thanks, i have to go now" he made for the door. Dayo's voice stopped him. She moved close to him and slipped some naira notes into his hand.

"The holy spirit ordered me to do this. I really don't know why but I'm sure he does". She smiled and Kunle smiled back.

"Thank you so much Dayo" he said and went out of her office.



                      Epilogue

Dayo got married to Kayode Ogunleye, a Chemical Engineer that just arrived in the country from Germany. He's Pastor Collins' wife's cousin and they met during one of Dayo's visit to the couple's house. She had a set of twins and she's happy.

Kunle went to Philip and John's house. By this time, Philip is married and no longer lives with John. He stays in another part of the town with his pregnant wife. John too is engaged and getting married soon. Kunle's friends gave him a capital to start a business and get his life together after telling them his ordeal in the States. He picked up the pieces of his life and started afresh. Committing to God's work and obeying him more.

CHAPTER 8  Mide went back home that day heavy-burdened. She didn't even know how she got home safely with her present state of mind. Pst Mrs had assured her all will soon be well so far she breaks up with Dara ASAP. She left her Pastor's house late that Saturday evening after she and Pst Mrs prayed heartily. She had hugged her before leaving.  She drove into her compound and met Desola already waiting for her outside. CHAPTER 10 (grand finale)   They got to an exclusive restaurant, ordered for food and started talking. "So i heard you are engaged and getting married soon" Sammy suddenly said immediately they started eating "oooh, you heard!" Mide said shamefully. She didn't know how to break the news to him. "Well, yes i was" she finally replied. "Was?  What happened?" he asked curiously, then his phone rang and Mide could see from the screen that it's Bola. "This Bola again!" she thought offensively Sammy received the call after excusing himself from Mide. He and Bola talked for a while. Mide couldn't even place her finger on what they were talking about despite talking in English, it was just like they were speaking in parables.
