THE INSIGHT - CHAPTER 5

                CHAPTER 5

"How dare he agree with his rude and arrogant boss that i look like a maid! I graduated with a first class in business administration for crying out loud! I'm the personal assistant to one of the most influential and successful men in the country. I've been to different countries for business meetings with my boss and I'm........."

".......then look the part!" Bola cuts in aggressively. She's been listening to Dayo ranting and blotting since she came back from Kunle's place. She didn't even reply her greetings before she started narrating all that happened angrily. Dayo kept quiet for some seconds before uttering another word.

"What did you say? Don't tell me you are also supporting Kunle and his boss" she's obviously still angry and was ready to pour it all out on Bola if the latter isn't careful.

"I'm not trying to be on anybody's side here. I'm just being honest" she said trying to calm her down, then she continued  "Dayo, you know this is not the first time i'd tell you this. You may say Kunle saw you this way before he came for you but you'd have to do more than this to keep him"

"So i must now compromise my lifestyle just to please a man!" she asked rhetorically, pressing her lips against each other. She didn't even bother having her seat.

"But we are not talking about just any man here. This is the man you've decided to spend the rest of your life with and.........."

"Just shut up Bola if you've got nothing sensible to say. So now his boss is better than i am right? Because she uses all those stuff meant for unbelievers, perfumes and the likes. Applying all those devilish things on her face that makes her look like a masquerade. If Kunle wants me to be dressing like that, then he had better be kidding" she blotted out and stomped into her room. Bola watched her go and sighed as she continued picking the beans she intends to cook since it's weekend.

"Oh my God! Who again is it?  Can't someone just have a peaceful weekend?" Kunle murmured in anger. He was just starting to sleep back after the early morning scenario between Dayo and Feyi, when he heard a loud bang on the door.

He wanted to ignore the bang just to send a message to the person that he wasn't home,  and then he remembered his car is parked just outside the house, and with the unrepentant knock of the person, he/she must have the assurance that he's home.

"i must really find a hidden place to be parking this car" he murmured as he put on his slippers and walked sluggishly to the door. He opened the door right away this time without peeping.

"Kunlex bobo!!!!" they hailed as they made their way into the house, laughing and giggling.

"Aha! When did you guys arrive?" Kunle's initial anger dried up when he saw his twin best friends. It's been 2 years since he saw them last and that was before they both travelled to Europe for their Masters degree. He totally forgot about their arrival.

"Just yesterday ooo. We told you na" Philip, one of the twins replied.

"Chai, Kunle don change oo. See his cheeks" John, the other replied

"Why won't his cheeks come out when he's enjoying a good life. Good job, Good house, nice car.....what else?" he tapped his finger like there's still something left.

"it's like you are forgetting something" John cuts in "Good bae" he said and both of them laughed heartily.  Kunle just kept on smiling as he joined them in the lounge after arranging the curtain. He really missed them. They have a way of bringing life to his gloomy mood with their healthy sense of humor.

"So tell us na, how is bae?  Philip asked after laughing

"Bae is fine jare. She left here few hours ago" Kunle replied with a black mood as he sat down. The 2 brothers were still standing.

"aha! Wetin happen? What's with the face?" John asked, after they both noticed his countenance.

"Abi is there trouble in paradise ni?" Phillip asked and he and his brother went on another round of laughter.

Kunle just smiled and waited till they were done laughing before he replied.

"Well, there will always be trouble in paradise till a change come" He replied. Both brothers now realize there's really 'trouble in paradise'. They sat down beside him, each at the other end thereby putting him in the middle.

"What's wrong?" one of them asked

Kunle suddenly took note of the change in atmosphere

"Aha, is it my matter that made you guys gentle liked this?" he said and laughed heartily.

"You know say you are our personal padi na" John replied.

"Thanks bros" he stood up to get a cup of water as both brothers' eyes were on him.

They've been friends for quite a while for them to know when Kunle is really troubled but they decided not to push him to talk.

"oya gist me na, how London?" Kunle said after taking the cup of water. He's trying to bring the lively mood back. "How are those baes?" he continued.

John jumped up like he sat on a pin. He's really  back!

"Aah! No personal bae yet ooo. Na only Philip get bae for now. I still dey on the lookout for one"

"Ehn ehn. Gist me na"

"Good morning Mr Johnson" she greeted with a captivating smile as she dropped her cellphone to pay attention to him.

"Morning Naomi" he stopped at her desk with a smile. "I hope you had a great weekend" he added

"Yes i did. How about you?"

"Well, no complains" he shrugged. "it wasn't actually a very good weekend anyway" he thought as he turned to go to his office. Naomi's voice disrupted his thought.

"Madam requested you see her in her office immediately you arrive" she said hurriedly before he made for his office.

"Really?" with a bewildered look

"Yes" she replied and then signaled to him to move closer. "i just hope you haven't done anything to change her mood o 'cause she looked so happy when she arrived in the office this morning. All of us were just wondering what might have happened over the weekend" she whispered, using her hands to cover one side of her mouth like a professional gossip.

"Hmmmmmm. Officer in charge of gossip for Marfel Constructions" Kunle hailed jokingly.

"Anyway, thanks for the information. I'd keep it in mind" he added as he laughed and headed to his office to drop his briefcase. Naomi shrugged and continued on her phone.

Feyi sat on the comfortable and adjustable chair meant for the CEO. She couldn't pinpoint why she's exactly happy that morning. She rolled herself in the chair and smiled as the AC in the room blowed her hair gently. A small cupboard meant for the keeping of files is seen at the right hand corner of the room and a small fridge on the left hand side. Apart from the 2 office chairs located in the opposite direction of the CEO's chair, there used to be 2 cushion chairs in the middle of the well spacious office but Feyi got them taken out when she resumed as the CEO. "i don't have time for the luxury of entertaining visitors or resting during work" she had said.

***************************************

Kunle arrived at the front door of Feyi's office and his heart skipped a beat. "What could she have called me for? She has never requested to see me since she resumed" he thought as he knocked.

"Come in" she said calmly. Kunle opened the door and stepped inside.

"You asked to see me Ma".  It's office premises now so Kunle must not be carried away by Feyi's gentleness during the weekend. She still remains the fearful boss.

"Yes i did. Have your seat" she said with a mild smile.

Kunle sat on one of the chairs in front of Feyi. He's sure to an extent that he hasn't done anything bad with the smile she gave him.

"I just wanted to thank you in person for honoring my invitation to my birthday party on Friday. That was what i came to do on Saturday before your fiancee......" she waved her left hand across her face. "......arrived"

"I should be the one thanking you for giving me the honor Ma" Kunle replied

"Uhmmm, it's okay" she paused for some seconds, then continued. "I hope i didn't cause a misunderstanding between you two anyway"

"uhmmmm. No, you didn't Ma. Dayo and i always manage to settle any differences, no matter what" he lied.

"Hmmmmm. That's pretty fair".

There was an awkward silence for few seconds. Kunle kept on avoiding her gaze. Feyi noticed this and immediately changed the subject of discussion.

"Anyway, that will be all"

Kunle stood up and returned the chair in it's initial position.

"Thank you Ma"

"Get me the file for Basadi cooperations in the cupboard over there" she pointed

"She won't cease to amaze me. Naomi should be the one doing this" Kunle thought as he ransacked the whole cupboard.

"I found it Ma" he said like he just won a battle.

"Drop it on the table and leave" she said without looking up at him.

Kunle got out of the office and stopped in the passage to reminisce about what just transpired in there.

"At a point she was all friendly and the next second, she's the boss" he thought, then shrugged and continued walking to his office. He bumped into Naomi as he made a turn in the passage.

"ehn ehn! Just the man i want to see" she grinned. "what did Madam say you did wrong?" she asked immediately

"So you can start broadcasting to the other staffs abi"

"Aha, no na. You know I'm a good girl" she smiled mischievously

"i don't think so" Kunle replied as he walked on. Naomi raced behind him in her heels.

"Wait Mr Johnson!" she stood in front of him. "so that means you actually did something wrong"

Kunle heaved a sigh and walked on. It's better to give Naomi the thought that he did something wrong other than she spreading any other rumor.

"Eeya sorry oo" she sympathized and walked on.
